Chief of the Caledonian Society
129th Annual Highland Games Message

It is my pleasure, as Chief of the Waipu Caledonian Society to extend a warm welcome to everyone, these 129th Annual Highland Games. Special guests at our 'Millennium Celebrations" include the Clan Gordon Pipe Band from Tacoma, Washington State, USA. A special welcome to Pipe Major Ken Moorhouse, Drum Major Bob Wiebe and their fellow band members, wives and supporters, including John Gideon who has acted as liaison person between our respective groups. I trust that your stay in New Zealand is rewarding and I look forward to your active involvement in our Celebrations.

The Waipu Caledonian Society once again hosts the World Highland Heavyweight Competition. The top athletes from Scotland, Iceland, USA, Holland and Australia are participating along with the top three exponents. This promises to be an exciting event and our thanks go to David Webster, O.B.E. the Secretary General of the International Federation of Heavy Event Athletes for his assistance in the hosting of this event.

Our Society is holding a National Invitation Piobaireachd Competition and will be host to many of New Zealand's top pipers. Collectively this would be the best group of pipers assembled in Waipu for many years.

Larger than usual entries in the Highland Dancing section have been received and all in all, I believe these two day Games will be a great spectacle. To our many Competitors, good luck, and may you all enjoy your stay in Waipu. I would like to thank the many Sponsors, Volunteers, Adjudicators and Dancing Pipers for your contribution to the success of our Games.

In closing may I wish everyone involved in our Annual Games, an enjoyable festive season and a happy and prosperous start to the new Millennium.

Ceud měle fŕilte

D. McK. Fraser
Chief.
