Torrey Pines eat your hearts out!  Here in Northland New Zealand we have a west coast which boasts a section of coastal cliffs and sand dunes, which are soarable in westerly conditions for distances in excess of 150 kms! - That's nearly 80 nautical miles!  You can do a Gold Distance flight, out and return here!

A look at the mid-section of the coastal run appears in the Gliding Holiday page of this site, taken from Duo Discus 'PX during the Christmas 2003 Enterprise Contest.

Here is some video footage of the flights the crew of 'PX made accompanied by Bernie Massey flying his venerable Standard Cirrus 'NC.

Please be aware that as these videos are LARGE, between 2.5 and 5.2 MB, unless you have a wideband connection download times will be long.  However I do recommend you have a look at these, because it is some of the most incredible footage I have ever seen.  Movies are MPEG format.

Racing along the Dunes     - 2.5MB - Can you spot the beachcomber on the starboard side?
Beach run further north      - 5.2MB - A run along the Dunes.
Soaring Maunganui Bluff    - 3.4MB - Halfway north, Bluff is approx 1450' above the sea.
