Originally our winch was purchased from the Taupo Gliding Club and was powered by a 6 Cylinder Ford Windsor motor. The cable used was #10 swg high tensile fencing wire. The machinery was mounted on the back of a 1942 Chevolet 3 Ton Truck, which was appropriately painted in Northland Cooperative Dairy Company colours, and looked like a refugee Milk Tanker! A Ford Cleveland V8, and Automatic Gearbox were added later..............

The new winch mounted on a trailer the triangular frame is part of the wire lay-on gear. Please dont mind the mud - Picture taken during the winter!
The winch deployed during Enterprise Contest 2003 at the northern end of the airstrip - winch now has 2 reels, modified lay-on gear, and 8mm Polypropylene rope..............Lester Chapman, Gerald Zimmendinger and Boomy are the operator's this day.
