General Broadband Information:

Each type of ADSL modem or router has a different interface, but there are some general settings that apply.

To configure your modem/router you will need to use the following settings and step through the 'install-guide' or 'manual' that came with your modem/router.  This manual is often a .pdf file located on the CD that was included.

  • Operating Mode:
    "G.992.1", "G.DMT", "ANSI T1.413 iss 2" or "Auto"

     
  • VPI: 0
     
  • VCI: 100
     
  • Encapsulation: RFC 2364 (or "PPPoverATM", also known as "PPPoA")
     
  • Framing: VCMUX
     
  • Username: eg.  joebloggs@igrin.co.nz
     
  • Password: chosen when you first join Broadband

If you have trouble setting up your modem/router check your modem documentation, or contact your modem vendor's support-line (the phone number can be found in the documentation that comes with your modem/router or on their website)

System Recommendations

Minimum system specifications: Pentium 166, USB or Ethernet ADSL modem/router, VGA Monitor and Recent Browser eg. Internet Explorer 5 or later.  Even these specifications may be to low, you should check with your ADSL modem vendor prior to purchasing.

Fully functional ADSL enabled phone line.  ADSL modems/routers need a clear signal and Telecom enabled ADSL line to work. Your modem/router needs to be run through a splitter or filter.

Windows 95 (equivalent Mac or Unix based) or later.
